About SMAT
Sports Management Admission Test (SMAT) is a test designed to cater to a very specific domain– i.e. Sports Management. This test focuses on candidates’ liking & awareness of the sports industry & their acumen for the business side of sports.
Through this test, candidates will be tested on their aptitude in Mathematics, English, Logical Reasoning with an emphasis on their interest and knowledge about the sporting ecosystem.
SMAT is conducted online.

Understanding the SMAT Test
SMAT is for 80 marks and the duration of the test is 80 minutes. The test is divided into five sections as mentioned below:
- Quantitative Analysis
- Data Interpretation
- Logical Reasoning
- Verbal Ability, Verbal Reasoning & Reading Comprehension
- Sports Awareness
Preparation for the test
The Test has various aspects as discussed and for each of them, there are tips mentioned below that will help students.
Quantitative Analysis:
- Be affluent with tricks that will help in solving the number-based questions easily.
- Know the formulas well to avoid spending time on word-based problems.
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning:
- It is important for students to use logic and take decisions
- The test will assess student’s logical thinking ability based on how they gather required information from data pool.
- It is essential to know how to apply data and understand it.
Verbal Analysis:
- As the name suggests, the verbal analysis would comprise questions that would judge your reading and reasoning abilities. So be sure you are well aware.
- The questions are framed such that assess students’ skills in understanding the concept of framed words and comprehension skills.
- This test would also want them to think constructively and communicate in the language.
Sports Awareness
SMAT comes with a 30% weightage for sports-related questions, even though the test focuses on Sports Awareness, it’s not just about Records or Sports Celebrities but about every aspect of Sports. Therefore, students are expected to get acquainted with the sports industry as a whole.
This means they should be aware of:
- Governing Bodies in the industry
- Sports Authorities
- Sports Infrastructure
- Sports leagues/Tournaments
- Sports Activities –Now and in the Past
- Financial Aspects of Sports nationally as well as globally
- Administrative Perspective in the sports industry
